Commissioning an artwork

Whether it be a gift or a portrait to remember your beloved pet, each and every commissioned portrait I do is meaningful and close to someone’s heart. Being able to provide this experience for my clients is why commissioned artwork and pet portraits are one one of my favourite aspects of what I do.

My aim is to produce highly detailed and realistic drawings, most importantly capturing your chosen subjects true character whilst providing a unique, personalised experience tailored to you. Please contact me if you have any questions!

Booking your portrait

First you will decide on a portrait size and reference photo for your drawing. Please bear in mind, the higher the quality of the photo the better the likeness of the portrait to your chosen subject. I am always happy to advise or discuss sizes and photos during this stage if you’re unsure; and please let me know if you have any special requirements, I will always do my best to accommodate these!

Once you have decided on a size and photo, a 25% non refundable deposit is needed to secure your booking. Please make sure to contact me as soon as you can, before I start drawing, if there are any alterations you would like to make to your booking.

The drawing process

I will always let you know an estimated time scale dependant on size and subject when booking your portrait, and I will contact you to let you know when I am about to start drawing. From there, you can choose whether you would like to receive photo updates along the way, or wait to see the finished artwork once completed!

I often take videos and photos of my drawings, so you will also be able to see your portrait come to life on my social media. Although for gifts, I will wait until after it has been gifted!

Completion

Once your portrait is complete, I will send you several photos of the finished artwork to ensure you are entirely happy with it.

After this, the remaining payment will be due and the drawing packaged with a certificate of authenticity in high quality, beautiful gift wrapping, to protect it as it makes its way to you!

Advice on taking the best reference photo

A good reference photo is essential for me to create the best drawing I can for you. I always aim to reflect your pets character and personality within the drawing, and the reference photo is key to achieving this.

Natural lighting is always best to capture their colours and details accurately so try taking the photo outdoors if possible, or next to a large window. Being able to see their eyes clearly is also very important so I find using a treat, or their favourite toy held above the camera is a great way of holding their attention on the camera and keeping them still so the photo is not blurry.

Please try to choose a photo taken close enough, so that it is clear and I can see as much detail as possible. Also, it is important to send the original photo, rather than a screenshot or photo sent through social media, by email to try and retain as much of the photo quality as possible. The clearer the photograph, the better the drawing!

I understand that some of your pets may sadly no longer be with us, so I will always try and do my best to work with any photos you may have and love.

If you are unsure about your photos, or can’t decide on one, feel free to email me any you might like and I will be happy to help and offer advice.

What my clients say…

“I commissioned a drawing from Rebecca for my friends birthday. I was absolutely blown away by the end result. Rebecca was brilliant in keeping me updated with progress, and I was given opportunities for input throughout the process. It was also lovely to receive a time lapse video of the drawings progress, which I could share with my friend. When I received the drawing, the packaging was beautiful – I won’t describe it as I don’t want to spoil the surprise for you!!! Needless to say, I would absolutely recommend RS Fine Art – Rebecca is exceptionally talented.”

“We commissioned Rebecca to do a pencil portrait of our two dogs. Throughout the process Rebecca was very professional in her approach keeping us informed at all times at what stage she was at. In all Rebecca was professional, polite. We were extremely impressed with her work and very pleased with the portrait of our dogs.”
